The Witness I speak of, is not the witness of the prophets and apostles per se, but the Witness of the Holy Ghost whenever they speak, the Holy Spirit is witnessing to me, to my soul, that what they say is the mind and will of the Lord...
and so we had GENERAL CONFERENCE this weekend. I watched it all. 10 hours of 5 sessions at 2 hours each. It is intense, but I don't get tired, I watch, learn, and listen to all they say. I particularly enjoy the Apostles as a default, they are great as a default, but there were also some General Authorities who are not Apostles who also deliver wonderful and fascinating addresses as they too have been inspired by revelation to give to all the church, and the world, on this General Conference event we have in the Church of Jesus Christ of latter day Saints every six months (April and October).
The amazing thing is how nearly EVERY talk given had application in and to my life. The Lord Jesus Christ inspires each of these leaders, and so the Lord knows what we need in our world and life challenges today.
He is still hitting home by having his servants declare that the greatest work we will ever do will be within the walls of our own homes.
He is declaring that we need to consider life is as the vision of Lehi where there was a straight and narrow path, a rod of iron, a tree of life, a great and spacious building, mists of darkness and the filthy river. These spiritual metaphors are helpful to us to understand the very real spiritual battle that is taking place for each and every one of us.
He is declaring the Christlike charity that needs to be taking place throughout the world, and especially with all of these refugees that have been cast out of their homes with their children. Many dozens of MILLIONS all throughout the world today. What can we do to help? They have provided answers and suggestions. We are supposed to help. After the General Authority talk by Patrick Kearon about the Lord's admonitions and commands concerning "do it unto one of the least of these" I saw that President Uchtdorf got up next to announce the rest of the program, and he having been a refugee in Germany when he was only 4 years old, yet he remembers the experiences... when he got up I saw him as I have never seen him. He was having difficulty speaking. He usually is cheerful, jovial, and witty and fun to listen to, in his own way with his German accent, but this time, he was choked up. He was having a hard time making a basic announcement of the program details. He had obviously been affected by the previous talk, and so was I. I remember as I was listening, how strong the HOLY GHOST was while I heard his charge and counsel concerning these refugees and what our role and responsibility is towards them. It was fascinating. I was not even a refugee myself, but I still felt the powerful feelings of the Lord in the Holy Sprit witnessing as to the importance of this world tragedy before us. Are we going to be indifferent to it, or are we going to be proactive in playing a role to help lift the hands that hang down, even if they are not members of our church and even of another Muslim faith.
As I thought on all these things, I thought, what better way could the Lord open the minds and hearts of these people who do not currently believe in Jesus Christ, than to have them be helped by the people who DO believe in Jesus Christ, and their own people do not even help them? How could this not be one of the most massive and effective missionary tools, EVER? It is the thing that can change hearts. We must act.
I learned SO MUCH at General Conference. This is why I believe! I feel the Holy Ghost witness to the truth of the things I hear at these conferences. I encourage you to take a listen and see for yourself. Let the Holy Ghost influence you, there is nothing to fear about the Holy Ghost. He speaks the truth to our souls.
