Today's world of 2015 is SATURATED with Political Correctness (PC), so much, that it is seriously affecting freedom of speech. People are getting to the point of fear of losing their jobs, for instance, if they state what they really think or feel or believe, and their employer doesn't agree with it, maybe the employer will just fire them for cause. They embarrassed the business, for instance. They lost clients who refuse to do business with them anymore until that person is fired, for instance. In the news today we can plainly see that many people ARE losing their jobs when they post something on Facebook or give an interview, etc., and say the "wrong" thing and it gets found out. Some of their sincere heartfelt speech in these situations might be considered "hate speech" or "bigoted speech" etc., and this because PC secularism and the removal of references to God from the public discourse has taken place in government circles both federal and local. Now you have to be careful what you say, even in small soundbites. Speech has become this liability. One by one governments are joining the chorus of the anti-Christs in the world, and we do see freedom of speech being eroded in mainstream circles, such as the government places or on the MSM mainstream news. You are pretty much censored quickly if you go there, if you preach your faith and belief system.
We live in such a complicated PC world now, where even terrorists can't be identified by name lest it somehow implicate a certain religion or country. There are so many things to consider in how to interact with it when it comes to matters of morality as well. Nobody can get all of it right UNLESS they rely completely upon the Lord, and even then they might get persecuted and rejected for their speech or choices even if they are right. Proposition 8 comes to mind. The majority won this, but at the employer levels some people were getting fired for their "hateful" donations to the cause.
I can see that the majority do not take a stand on matters of principle or faith or belief. Only a few are seen doing this. That is RISKY behavior. One might lose an opportunity. You might ALIENATE someone. The majority today are choosing what will make them more financially benefitted, choosing the safe FINANCIAL route. Is God pleased with this? Not according to the scripture:
This is why secular ideas can prevail so easily, because they are in one way or another linked to people's pocketbooks, and having money is not a controversial or undesirable thing. But faith and religion? Now that's Controversial! lol. Even though we have Constitutional guarantees in the 1st Amendment to protect such things... the intolerant PC crowds are demanding that those who express ideas that disagree with their IMMORALITY must be silenced, because it is "hurtful" to them (in other words, they were offended). People are BORN with immoral lifestyle choices, they suggest. And so in their anger and disdain of such outbursts of speech, gentle as they may in all reality be, they seek to financially punish those who offend them, if they can (don't bake a certain cake, you're going to lose your business!). If they can't hurt them financially, they'll drown out their voices in a public place with DISDAIN and shout them down. Or bury them down with a barrage of scornful comments, or down-votes on a youtube video so it won't be played much. Just take away their free speech by blocking their free speech. Interrupt the speaker! Heckle. Chant. OUR CAUSE IS WHAT MATTERS! they will shout. And so their method is to take away the 1st Amendment rights of people. They are showing their disdain for the Constitution. Anarchists, and they are breaking laws.
The internet can sometimes be an equalizer on this.
What of this political correctness? Does the Book of Mormon address this relevant topic? It does!
A 25 year old man, Moroni, was placed in responsible charge over all the armies of his nation, the Nephite Nation, and he was the CHIEF CAPTAIN in. He fought in numerous battles in prolonged war for decades with the neighboring Lamanite Nation, and in that process he cut right through all of the PC and did what was right, or what he deemed right. He was a man of God. From the book:
A powerful TRIBUTE to the man who tried valiantly to save his nation through hand-on leadership. He gave his life, literally and died of his overexposures to war at the young age of 43. He was not killed in battle... just wore himself out for the cause of FREEDOM, the Cause of the Christians, who believe in freedom, free speech, the way of happiness.
So after 12 years of war, there was a certain intrigue taking place where Moroni and his armies were not receiving provisions and food from the central government. Moroni did not know that there were traitors among them, but he suspected it. He used his reasoning powers and deduced that if he and his armies had to suffer and die for the cause of preserving the freedom of the nation, then the central government could also do their job. But they were NOT doing their job. Moroni knew it and he did not make excuses for them. He was not polite and politically correct. In a time of crisis as men were DIEING in the cause, he lambasted the governor of the land and the government. You can read his scathing letter here...
He put to rest the traitorous KINGMEN in the government, those who would rather SELL OUT their own country by losing the war, on purpose, so they could come into a secret combination with a more global plan, seeking for POWER. Does this happen today? Of course it does. There are seeming treasonous traitors in high places in government today as we scratch our heads and wonder why things get worse and worse and worse, and we just watch and passively accept it as "politics as usual." What if Captain Moroni took that approach?
Captain Moroni -- a no-nonsense man of ACTION
The point is, his letter got attention. His letter was answered. The governor to who it was directed was not so miffed by it that he wouldn't help Moroni (indeed if he did get miffed, he would have been in a very bad place challenging the very successful Chief Captain of the armies). So Pahoran was humble enough to try and help Moroni, but he was seemingly powerless on his own. It took Moroni coming in with a portion of his armies to force the traitors in their government who WERE trying to defeat their own armies, traitors! it took this show of force to put that political nonsense to rest, and PC be damned. In a moment of serious crisis there is no room for PC. It is time for leadership. Captain Moroni serves as one of the most premier examples of leadership that ever existed on the face of this earth. He was a man of God and he took charge. He was valiant and fearless, and yet he was not a dictator. He had mercy even upon his most vile and hateful adversaries such as this great example with Zemnihara:
Captain Moroni -- a no-nonsense man of MERCY
