BOOK of MORMON Answers: Do you have Faith in the prophecies of Christ's 2nd Coming, even when facing Death for it?
The Book of Revelation lays out what the future holds for the faithful. It says:
11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.
12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.
13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six. (666)
Is the United States (America) actually Dependent on God and His Terms?
That's what the scriptures say.
pertaining to times BEFORE CHRIST was born prophets said:
The reason that the United States is "CHOICE" I think is obvious. The country has the best conditions overall for the majority of the people here, not just a few. Yes there are a few that are filthy rich, but the vast majority have plenty when compared to other nations. The United States has an inspired Constitution that provides freedom, even though there are those among us and even in government positions who are constantly chipping away at it through ignoring it or implementing regulation to thwart it, or where high judges legislate from the bench by over-ruling votes of people and ruling votes unconstitutional when it is constitutional that the people vote! So much for freedom of the majority and how that works, when a very few un-elected judges can change the course of history on critical matters of say, marriage, which then affects the whole country! Just like their ruling on abortion decades ago which has lead to nearly 40,000,000 deaths of infants here. These judges have hanging over their heads the leading of an unsuspecting populace down a path of destruction. The Lord will wait until the fulness of wickedness before it comes crashing down by his will. It is called being "swept off" the land. It has happened several times before on this very land.
The United States is a choice land because of all this freedom and prosperity. It is obvious. The gospel was able to be restored here to the earth, because of the measure of religious freedom that was in place at the time of Joseph Smith. People from less fortunate countries are still flooding here, at least trying to, and when they are thwarted from coming in legally through red tape, many have chosen to cross the borders illegally, and where they can't because they have oceans separating them from this land, they are patiently waiting for years and years, but so very few visas granted. They want to come. Many in the United States do not want them to come, because they perceive that it will ruin our economy, that there is only so much money to go around. I don't think they are right on that, but I understand the fears. The question is, in the context of the gospel of Christ and the teachings to help and uplift all people, are fears justified in the eyes of the Lord?
I went to China and understand that many if not most of them have consigned that they never will be ABLE to come here, to live in a home, to have a car, to have a high paying job... so and they try and not think about it. They try to be positive living in their crowded apartments, no yards, no street on which to park their car which they don't even have and could never afford to buy, having a $300-500 /month job 10 times less than the USA salaries and far below what WELFARE provides to people who don't even work here, for free. In China cars are the same price or higher than here, so only the very rich can buy them. They live in poorly constructed buildings with little maintenance and so infrastructure wears out quickly, they have expensive malls which are maintained constantly reminding them of what they will never have, but instilling in them a materialism on every corner of things far beyond their reach to buy, exceeding even American prices. Only the rich buy there. I have seen it. The 10% who are privileged in higher level government positions. We have that too in American BTW, where government salaries are much higher and where pensions actually make their salaries TWICE what they appear because they will keep getting paid long after the job is over. Despite all that, In America the people in general have it very very well off. It is a blessed nation, and not because of our individual actions. In fact, America is ours to LOSE. We didn't earn it.
This is the case, because this is the Lord's choice land. Its not something WE did who live here, its something the Lord did. It is because of a blessing that we are even here, those of us who hail as citizens of the USA. This is not a self righteous declaration, don't mistake, it is an understanding of the reading of scripture that there is PURPOSE in the Lord setting up a land for a place for His people. The Lord has always had a people, and in the Bible He called them the House of Israel. But today there are also Gentiles who the Lord is taking the gospel to as well. Question is, will they accept it?
As I ponder this and see the condition of our country, the USA, deteriorating in more wickedness every year, seeing morality erode and people are now calling evil things good and good things evil, it is the beginning of persecutions that are happening now but will only increase in time. We have begun the plunge downward into wickedness and the great flood of evil that the prophets foretold was coming, is now upon us. A tidal wave of sin, that is growing in amplitude and inundating all people throughout the world with the shameless wickedness of pornography and adultery, murder, theft and war. It is a time when ALL of the 10 COMMANDMENTS are being broken by more and more people who collectively descend into a godless and wicked secular existence where God is forgotten. Yet there are a few who try and abstain, who take the holy scriptures as their guide, and strive to make the Lord the center of their lives, as challenging as it may be in so many ways. They try. Be a light to the world as Jesus taught. Be the salt of the earth, as He taught. These hold fast to the iron rod of the scriptures and they pray always in their hearts and their secret places as Jesus taught us to do.
3 Nephi 13:6
So what is going to happen? What do the scriptures say of the USA, and the rest of the world?
What will all of this wickedness bring? Destruction is prophesied. It has happened before.
3 Nephi 21:12
As I read this scripture, I realize that there are many remnants of Jacob all over the world (Israel or Jacob's posterity was scattered and there are 10 lost tribes as well). But the Lord Jesus Christ is speaking here, and He is speaking to the Nephites and Lamanites at the temple in Bountiful and he is talking about "my people" who will be among the Gentiles in this nation. The vast majority of people in the USA are Gentiles, not the House of Israel, but they too have the opportunity to accept newly revealed truths like the Book of Mormon and the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ's true church... the only true church, or they can reject that and keep what they have. It is prophesied as well that they will choose to keep what they have. The Lord said:
2 Nephi 29:6 6 Thou fool, that shall say: A Bible, we have got a Bible, and we need no more Bible. Have ye obtained
a Bible save it were by the Jews?
7 Know ye not that there are more nations than one? ....
8 Wherefore murmur ye, because that ye shall receive more of my word?
10 Wherefore, because that ye have a Bible ye need not suppose that it contains all my words;
neither need ye suppose that I have not caused more to be written.
Still the Lord gave/gives them the chance and then if they don't repent that scripture above will be the result. The Lord's covenant people (I am thinking of central and south Americas where most all are of the House of Israel, descendants of Lehi), will come among them like a lion. Current events no doubt shape these prophesied outcomes. Take Donald Trump's rhetoric for example. Maybe with Donald Trump threatening 10's of millions of Latinos as a people so much, it will engender a spirit of resentment towards the white skinned Gentiles in general many of whom also seem to enthusiastically buy into what this man of many flattering words is selling. He is selling selfishness, really. He is selling deporting people, millions, which means that families will be split up, parents taken from children for instance after having been together for years or decades. No compassion. He is selling isolationism. He is selling building of huge walls (Germany and China did that). He is selling blocking people from even coming into this country based on their religion because SOME in their religion have killed people (terrorists). Donald Trump is selling something that will bring on the destruction of the nation. He is selling pride and wealth. He is selling what he has labored all his life to obtain: MONEY. He is selling the life of a Billionaire. Most of all, because of narcissism, he is promoting himself, the brand of TRUMP. In many ways, Donald Trump can be compared to Amalickiah in the Book of Mormon who sought to overthrow the freedoms of the land and establish himself to be the King of the Nephites AND Lamanites. He almost succeeded because he was a man of many flattering words, like so many politicians in the world today.
This blog entry was not about Donald Trump, but as I read these Book of Mormon scriptures I can't help but recognize what is going on in our world today and the things that are being said by various leaders, and how it affects nations and opinions. Some of these things being said are reminiscent of World War II talk, as well as the rise of Germany except that if Trump has his way the USA can be substituted for what Germany tried to do, to build walls and become greater than all other countries. That can not and should not be the GOAL in the spiritual sense. Trump has said he would go and bomb people throughout the world who had terrorists in it, and take their oil, and he would just DO things like any dictator of the past did. This is the problem with the RHETORIC. I am not judging Trump. Let God do that, but I certainly can judge the rhetoric he spews constantly, and I can see how he dismisses people who do not agree with him. He is not a listener or collaborator, but kind of a conquerer. He will break his opponents and has threatened to do so. This is not the sign of a good leader, but the sign of a bad leader. Good leaders are humble and patient, and decisive when need be, they can take heat without verbal retaliation, but one is not a good leader who dictates opinions, mocks others about their looks or misfortune, or who states that they will just make executive orders to get things done, knowing that there is a Congress in place where laws are actually made by virtue of our Constitution. In the USA we have a CONSTITUTION which must be defended, and it is set up where there are MANY people in place in government who need to collaborate to get things done (Congress). It is set up to PREVENT a single man from having too much power. It is a brilliant inspired government structure, and is the reason America is great. If Donald Trump encourages Americans to reject it by supporting him instead, because he is so "great" and "wonderful" then America will see its demise much sooner than if we had the Constitutional Republic remain in place. Donald Trump is not alone in rhetoric that is unconstitutional in nature. Both Democrat candidates Hilliary Clinton and Berney Sanders are socialists who would gladly overthrow the Constitution. Many Republican candidates also mirror many of the comments and ideas of Donald Trump. We are a nation teetoring at the edge of radical change. There must be many who will stand and defend the Constitution and not sell it away for a mess of pottage.
When the Lord commands a Prophet, it comes to pass, right??
Some things take a long time. And this is what drives many people to cynicism. Especially in the current day of a prophet. When a prophet speaks and results don't happen right away, prophecy doesn't seem to come to pass or circumstances change making it seem that the man isn't a prophet. Or how about when a family or group prays for help and the help doesn't come right away or in the way presupposed, there will often be doubtful ones who will say "God doesn't exist because he didn't answer your prayer," or "the prophets word didn't come to pass exactly like he said, therefore they are a false prophet." Did the family pray for their will, or the Lord's will? Often people pray for their will rather than try and discern what is the Lord's will. Its common.
But it depends on the Lord's time-table, doesn't it? It also depends on the will of the Lord.
The Lord's time-table may actually include a "DOUBT PHASE," a "test of faith," or the time period that gives people experiencing a faith-dependent event enough time while waiting for results to actually experience the temptation of doubt... (not that they have to doubt!). In this manner their faith can actually be TESTED. What kind of a test would it be if the Lord gave immediate results, every time, under every circumstance? That would be so much like a science experiment that we could actually call it science! Hypothesis proved! But the Lord has this thing called the time table. He can stretch that for various circumstances, and so it becomes a matter of faith. Some may doubt during this process. Jesus would say "Oh ye of little faith..." when they fail.
If we read the scriptures we can plainly see that the Lord's time table can be very long, such as Noah getting warned about a flood and commanded to build an ark, but it was a long long long time (decades) until any rain ever came. In the mean time he was mocked by all the wicked as he built it looking like a fool to all those watching him and his family do this.
Some other very righteous people had to suffer for a while before the blessings or relief came, or they had to undergo experiencing some humiliating circumstances in the mean time while the Lord teaches a lesson. What am I talking about? Here's some examples:
NEPHI is commanded to get the Plates of Brass. He is obedient, but fails through no fault of his own.
Attempt #1: Draw straws between brothers and have one of them go ask Laban for the plates. FAIL and Laman nearly dies as Laban threatens to kill him. Laman wants to GO HOME. Nephi says, "let's keep trying, be faithful."
Attempt #2: Nephi suggests to get all the family's gold and wealth and TRADE it to Laban. They all go to present the trade. Laban lusts after the wealth and commands his many guards to kill Nephi and his brothers so he can just take it. They flee and barely get away. Laman is livid. Do you think Nephi's faith was being tried a little bit at this moment, wondering why it wasn't working out? He had prayed and knew it was the will of the Lord. WHY?? They beat Nephi and Sam with a rod, an angel intervenes, and calls Nephi the leader and says to try again. Go to Jerusalem again.
Attempt #3: Nephi is renewed in his faith by the angel, and goes into the City Jerusalem once more, this time alone at night, and has miraculous success on the third try. Read about it here:
1 Nephi 4:17, 38
ANALYSIS. Laman and Lemuel (the older brothers over Nephi and Sam), were cynics who didn't have any faith. They wanted to give up on the first failure. Why does the Lord allow things to fail? Why did he let these brothers struggle? What is the point? How come He let Laman win the straw vote on the first attempt rather than put it into the hands of Nephi first? How come He let the 2nd attempt also fail when Nephi was with his older brothers in the palace of Laban? How come the Lord complete blessed the 3rd scenario where Nephi, ALONE, completely relied on the Spirit of God? So that Laman and Lemuel could know for sure that Nephi was their leader as the Lord told them by His angel? Maybe. But the main lesson I get out of this account is that Nephi let go if his preconceived ideas of what MIGHT work, and instead, relied solely on the Lord's inspiration, being led by the Spirit.
1 Nephi 4:6
IN THE END we can plainly see that the Lord's words were all fulfilled, and the plates of brass were obtained as He commanded them. It all worked out, but NOT as they expected OR planned. This is where faith comes in. When things don't work out as we expect, DO WE QUIT?
What the brothers did NOT know was that they were not going to get the plates of brass in any other way than over Laban's dead body.
Hence, the Lord allows OUR plans to fail when we try, when we could do a lot better if we pattern our efforts after the 3rd attempt, where Nephi was Led by the Spirit, not even knowing beforehand the things which he should do. He had to complete let go in a true leap of faith, enter the dangerous city where he already nearly lost his life due to a murderous Laban... and now he approaches the situation once more, but with TOTAL FAITH in the face of danger!!
In the end, the Lord commanded Lehi's sons to get the plates of brass and it was Nephi who was a true instrument of faith in the Lord's hands, hanging in there despite the setbacks and opposition, the brass plates were secured. Doesn't matter that it took a long time to get it done, or that there were miserable failures and setbacks along the way. Sometimes that's the Lord's way to prove His miracles.
MOSES is commanded to tell the Egyptian Pharaoh to Let the Lord's people go! And he does, but Pharaoh doesn't listen, and so Moses begins a long process of sending plague after plague, to wear Pharaoh down (apparently), but Moses had to feel the failure that each of the plagues served no seeming purpose than to antagonize Pharaoh even more and bring down punishments and more suffering upon the slaves. Moses looked like a FAIL prophet, indeed. Even with the miracles, it wasn't working. Moses looked like an antagonist and the Children of Israel wished he would go away. How's that for only trying to help and be obedient to the Lord. Do you think Moses' faith was tried a little bit?
Moses was obedient to do this, for TEN TIMES, but still no result. Snakes, Blood River, Frogs, Lice, Flies, Dead Cattle, Boils on people, Raining Fire Hail, Locusts ate everything, Thick Darkness for 3 days, still, the Pharaoh did not let the people go.
What Moses did not know was that none of these first 10 plagues were going to work, and the Lord knew that, but only the last one where the Pharaoh lost his 1st born son, only this would temporarily break his hard heart, become despondent enough for a short while, to allow the people go. For a brief "moment" Pharaoh felt DEFEATED and let them go. Then he changed his mind again, and the Lord parted the Red Sea and finished off many of the Egyptians by drowning. In the end, the Lord commanded Moses and we see that because of Moses being an instrument in the Lord's hands the Children of Israel were set free. Doesn't matter that it took a long long time to get it done. Sometimes that's the Lord's way to prove His miracles.
Today's world of 2015 is SATURATED with Political Correctness (PC), so much, that it is seriously affecting freedom of speech. People are getting to the point of fear of losing their jobs, for instance, if they state what they really think or feel or believe, and their employer doesn't agree with it, maybe the employer will just fire them for cause. They embarrassed the business, for instance. They lost clients who refuse to do business with them anymore until that person is fired, for instance. In the news today we can plainly see that many people ARE losing their jobs when they post something on Facebook or give an interview, etc., and say the "wrong" thing and it gets found out. Some of their sincere heartfelt speech in these situations might be considered "hate speech" or "bigoted speech" etc., and this because PC secularism and the removal of references to God from the public discourse has taken place in government circles both federal and local. Now you have to be careful what you say, even in small soundbites. Speech has become this liability. One by one governments are joining the chorus of the anti-Christs in the world, and we do see freedom of speech being eroded in mainstream circles, such as the government places or on the MSM mainstream news. You are pretty much censored quickly if you go there, if you preach your faith and belief system.
We live in such a complicated PC world now, where even terrorists can't be identified by name lest it somehow implicate a certain religion or country. There are so many things to consider in how to interact with it when it comes to matters of morality as well. Nobody can get all of it right UNLESS they rely completely upon the Lord, and even then they might get persecuted and rejected for their speech or choices even if they are right. Proposition 8 comes to mind. The majority won this, but at the employer levels some people were getting fired for their "hateful" donations to the cause.
I can see that the majority do not take a stand on matters of principle or faith or belief. Only a few are seen doing this. That is RISKY behavior. One might lose an opportunity. You might ALIENATE someone. The majority today are choosing what will make them more financially benefitted, choosing the safe FINANCIAL route. Is God pleased with this? Not according to the scripture:
This is why secular ideas can prevail so easily, because they are in one way or another linked to people's pocketbooks, and having money is not a controversial or undesirable thing. But faith and religion? Now that's Controversial! lol. Even though we have Constitutional guarantees in the 1st Amendment to protect such things... the intolerant PC crowds are demanding that those who express ideas that disagree with their IMMORALITY must be silenced, because it is "hurtful" to them (in other words, they were offended). People are BORN with immoral lifestyle choices, they suggest. And so in their anger and disdain of such outbursts of speech, gentle as they may in all reality be, they seek to financially punish those who offend them, if they can (don't bake a certain cake, you're going to lose your business!). If they can't hurt them financially, they'll drown out their voices in a public place with DISDAIN and shout them down. Or bury them down with a barrage of scornful comments, or down-votes on a youtube video so it won't be played much. Just take away their free speech by blocking their free speech. Interrupt the speaker! Heckle. Chant. OUR CAUSE IS WHAT MATTERS! they will shout. And so their method is to take away the 1st Amendment rights of people. They are showing their disdain for the Constitution. Anarchists, and they are breaking laws.
The internet can sometimes be an equalizer on this.
What of this political correctness? Does the Book of Mormon address this relevant topic? It does!
A 25 year old man, Moroni, was placed in responsible charge over all the armies of his nation, the Nephite Nation, and he was the CHIEF CAPTAIN in. He fought in numerous battles in prolonged war for decades with the neighboring Lamanite Nation, and in that process he cut right through all of the PC and did what was right, or what he deemed right. He was a man of God. From the book:
A powerful TRIBUTE to the man who tried valiantly to save his nation through hand-on leadership. He gave his life, literally and died of his overexposures to war at the young age of 43. He was not killed in battle... just wore himself out for the cause of FREEDOM, the Cause of the Christians, who believe in freedom, free speech, the way of happiness.
So after 12 years of war, there was a certain intrigue taking place where Moroni and his armies were not receiving provisions and food from the central government. Moroni did not know that there were traitors among them, but he suspected it. He used his reasoning powers and deduced that if he and his armies had to suffer and die for the cause of preserving the freedom of the nation, then the central government could also do their job. But they were NOT doing their job. Moroni knew it and he did not make excuses for them. He was not polite and politically correct. In a time of crisis as men were DIEING in the cause, he lambasted the governor of the land and the government. You can read his scathing letter here...
He put to rest the traitorous KINGMEN in the government, those who would rather SELL OUT their own country by losing the war, on purpose, so they could come into a secret combination with a more global plan, seeking for POWER. Does this happen today? Of course it does. There are seeming treasonous traitors in high places in government today as we scratch our heads and wonder why things get worse and worse and worse, and we just watch and passively accept it as "politics as usual." What if Captain Moroni took that approach?
Captain Moroni -- a no-nonsense man of ACTION
The point is, his letter got attention. His letter was answered. The governor to who it was directed was not so miffed by it that he wouldn't help Moroni (indeed if he did get miffed, he would have been in a very bad place challenging the very successful Chief Captain of the armies). So Pahoran was humble enough to try and help Moroni, but he was seemingly powerless on his own. It took Moroni coming in with a portion of his armies to force the traitors in their government who WERE trying to defeat their own armies, traitors! it took this show of force to put that political nonsense to rest, and PC be damned. In a moment of serious crisis there is no room for PC. It is time for leadership. Captain Moroni serves as one of the most premier examples of leadership that ever existed on the face of this earth. He was a man of God and he took charge. He was valiant and fearless, and yet he was not a dictator. He had mercy even upon his most vile and hateful adversaries such as this great example with Zemnihara:
Captain Moroni -- a no-nonsense man of MERCY
BOOK of MORMON Answers: Parenting and Free Agency. The Myth of Control. In the end, Children decide Religion and Faith all on their Own!
It's true! Many parents try to control because they think they can, and indeed they do have success when the kids are YOUNG and still naturally want to please their parents and so harmony in the home on matters of faith/religion is naturally easier when kids are younger. Depending on how the kids turn out when they get older, some parents take credit for it if the kids turn out well and successful. The kids did everything they told them to do and maybe take over the family business as well. Carry on the tradition. They will brag about them. But let's be fair. Let's be real.
Not all kids are like that, and it has nothing at all to do with the parents. It has everything to do with the personality and nature of the kids. Are they followers? Are they obedient? Or are they mavericks and completely independent thinkers? Are they service minded, or selfish? It all depends on the person, doesn't it. We have scriptures to show that this is the case even in very special families. Indeed, it was the way it was in the pre-mortal existence when all of us were in the presence of the Father of us all. 1/3 did not listen to Him, and are forever damned.
In modern times, God commanded parents to teach their children the gospel, and doesn't hold parents accountable if those children rebel against their teachings. He does hold them accountable if they don't teach them HIS teachings. Here are the facts on what the Lord has said on the matter:
Doctrine and Covenants 68:25
All the Lord requires is that parents teach their children the doctrines of repentance, faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, baptism requirements, and receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost by the time they are eight years old! If not, the sin will be on the heads of the parents, who should have taught their children.
In ancient times we have a great example of a family of a PROPHET of GOD, Lehi, who also had a son who also was a PROPHET of GOD and another son Jacob who also became a PROPHET of GOD so this family had a lot of righteousness in it! They also had a lot of wickedness in it. Laman and Lemuel come to mind. They were the exact opposite of the faithful father and brothers that were in their family... spiritual giants who had visions of the beginning and end of the earth, the tree of life, of the Savior of the World, visits by angels, etc. Nephi, Lehi, Jacob, etc. were very very righteous. But Laman and Lemuel made excuses. They also tried to KILL their younger brother and threatened to kill their father too. They were not only spiritual rebels, they were physically violent and dangerous to the family. So we would call this a "dysfunctional" family in today's terms. But were they really? Or were they just a NORMAL family?
My opinion is the latter. I think it is rare for a single family to turn out all perfect. I believe God smatters families with spirits of different personalities and spiritual leanings and capabilities, probably to give more of HIS CHILDREN a CHANCE in this world because He is so merciful and wants all to succeed. What better way for a Child of God to come to earth who was possibly struggling in the Spirit Realms of Heaven before this life, than to send them to an earthly home with parents kind and dear? And with possibly brothers and sisters who were strong in their FAITH so that they could learn from their examples!
I know I learn from the examples of good people. Probably especially those people in the SCRIPTURES because the Lord had those stories and examples selected for us to learn from. The Book of Mormon has specific and instructive examples of family relationship details, how they were hard, and how good people had to suffer through the learning experiences of those who were not good, and who threatened the peace of the family. These stories showed how the good people in the family learned from the scriptures and so adjusted their lives and attitudes and spiritual strength to do the will of the Lord. Take Nephi for instance shortly after his older brothers tried to KILL him because they were so angry with him for always speaking the truth, the words of the Lord:
1 Nephi 7:16-21
So the next time someone in our families offends us, let alone tries to KILL us, we can learn from Nephi what he did. He did frankly forgive it, and moved on, was positive, didn't hold a grudge, and tried to help again and again and again. For Nephi this was a trial that repeated many times throughout his record, as his older brothers never seemed to be able to overcome their PRIDE and accept Nephi as a prophet of God. They dismissed him as a fool and mocked him many times, and man-handled him many times. But Nephi being a disciple of Jesus Christ, bore all of these afflictions in patience and prayed to God while under situations of great duress. On another occasion when they were on a ship going to the promised land, on the ocean, Nephi preached to them, admonished them on account of their wickedness on the ship and so they tied him up for 4 days with tight cords, and left him to die. But as the Lord threatened them with a sinking ship in a huge storm, they repented, untied Nephi, and Nephi prays to stop the storm and it did. Peace and calm, because of FAITH. The faith that Laman and Lemuel lacked. Nephi once again suffered at the hands of his brothers and yet he remained a true disciple of Jesus Christ, patient in all afflictions and pains:
14 And on the fourth day, which we had been driven back, the tempest began to be exceedingly sore.
