When One Falls Away from the Church of Jesus Christ, and joins another, or quits religion altogether... how does their Belief System Fundamentally Change?
PROLOGUE: I have often thought what it might feel like to fall away from the church of your upbringing. I personally don't believe I could ever do it, because I have a very firm testimony, so many proofs that God has given me over the years, but many have chosen to leave it all. I have put together my thoughts on what I think that would really mean to me, and I suppose that some people have left without thinking this all through... Maybe this blog can serve as a possibility of offering some thought that may not have been considered... and I do invite all who have left, to come back.
Joseph Smith once said, "…Before you joined this Church you stood on neutral ground. When the gospel was preached, good and evil were set before you. You could choose either or neither. There were two opposite masters inviting you to serve them. When you joined this Church you enlisted to serve God. When you did that you left the neutral ground, and you never can get back on to it. Should you forsake the Master you enlisted to serve, it will be by the instigation of the evil one, and you will follow his dictation and be his servant.
Well, not anymore? The other 41,000 Christian denominations teach:
You are only a biological product of mother earth. Sure God created you, He created the earth so He created you and everything in it... but any notion that you have a spirit within you that existed before you came to earth is not a doctrine that can be found in other Christian religions, because it is one of the plain and precious truths that can be found in the Book of Mormon (and the Bible, if you look for it). Only the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believes in and has a PLAN of SALVATION where we are the spiritual offspring of God.
Even though you sang I am a child of God all throughout your childhood life and believed it even when you got older, even bore testimony of it, now that you leave and forsake the doctrines revealed through the prophet Joseph Smith about this, you face the idea that you no longer had an existence before this life. You are only the biological product of a human mother and father, you don't have any eternal spirit within you, your feelings are just human emotions and you can be deceived by your feelings, etc., etc., so don't believe them, and you also have NO relation to God.
Now you possibly have decided to believe you were deceived to have ever believed that book, and now you possibly say that Joseph Smith made it all up. The gold plates? They never existed and Joseph Smith lied and there was no angel Moroni who presented the plates to him. The Urim and Thummim account presented by Joseph and Oliver Cowdery his scribe for the vast amount of the Book of Mormon, even nearly all of it, or the egg stone in a hat account presented by Martin Harris in later years, or David Whitmer and apostate from the church also in aging older years, or Emma in her elderly years, her herself an apostate from the Church as well and attending another church.
Which witnesses and testimonies to believe? Especially when they conflict. Were these accounts even complete or accurate? Much of it was never intended to be found, like a long lost snippet but now taken as a complete record if it fits a narrative.
*According to the Center for the Study of Global Christianity (CSGC) at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, there are approximately 41,000 Christian denominations and organizations in the world.
**PRIESTCRAFT: 2 Nephi 26:29 He commandeth that there shall be no priestcrafts; for, behold, priestcrafts are that men preach and set themselves up for a light unto the world, that they may get gain and praise of the world; but they seek not the welfare of Zion.
5 And it came to pass that the angel spake unto me, Nephi, saying: Thou hast beheld that if the Gentiles repent it shall be well with them;
9 And it came to pass that he said unto me: Look, and behold that great and abominable church, which is the mother of abominations, whose founder is the devil.
10 And he said unto me: Behold there are save two churches only; the one is the church of the Lamb of God, and the other is the church of the devil; wherefore, whoso belongeth not to the church of the Lamb of God belongeth to that great church, which is the mother of abominations; and she is the whore of all the earth.
11 And it came to pass that I looked and beheld the whore of all the earth, and she sat upon many waters; and she had dominion over all the earth, among all nations, kindreds, tongues, and people.
12 And it came to pass that I beheld the church of the Lamb of God, and its numbers were few, because of the wickedness and abominations of the whore who sat upon many waters; nevertheless, I beheld that the church of the Lamb, who were the saints of God, were also upon all the face of the earth; and their dominions upon the face of the earth were small, because of the wickedness of the great whore whom I saw.
13 And it came to pass that I beheld that the great mother of abominations did gather together multitudes upon the face of all the earth, among all the nations of the Gentiles, to fight against the Lamb of God.
14 And it came to pass that I, Nephi, beheld the power of the Lamb of God, that it descended upon the saints of the church of the Lamb, and upon the covenant people of the Lord, who were scattered upon all the face of the earth; and they were armed with righteousness and with thepower of God in great glory.
1 Nephi 7:21 And it came to pass that I did frankly forgive them all that they had done, and I did exhort them that they would pray unto the Lord their God for forgiveness. And it came to pass that they did so. And after they had done praying unto the Lord we did again travel on our journey towards the tent of our father.
1 Nephi 8:37 And he did exhort them then with all the feeling of a tender parent, that they would hearken to his words, that perhaps the Lord would be merciful to them, and not cast them off; yea, my father did preach unto them.
